The Sutton Conservation Commission meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 6:30 pm will include an update of an item affecting Manchaug Pond – construction site of BlueWave Solar 45 Oak St, Douglas, a project causing environmental impacts to the lakes and wetlands. Significant runoff and pumping from the construction site has caused significant sediment and large volumes of sediment-laden water to impact the Sutton community at Manchaug Pond, Stevens Pond and the greater Mumford River, as well as neighboring properties, the watershed, and roads from Oak St and Parker Court, Douglas to Holt and Torrey Roads, Sutton.
The Sutton Conservation Commission had issued an Enforcement Order which required the development of a Restoration Plan for impacted areas. Manchaug Pond Foundation request BlueWave be required to continue measures outlined in the January 3, 2024 Restoration Plan to ensure public safety and restore the lake ecology – fisheries and wetlands – impacted by the sediment and phosphorus.
The Infiltration Basin 5 area which flowed heavy amounts of sediment and sediment-laden waters remains a concern with leakage and failure to drain.
With several PFAS chemicals found at Infiltration Basin 5 two months after the basin flowed its sediment-laden water into Manchaug Pond, we request followup testing of the lake water and fish to ensure health and safety and confidence that our water resources is safe.
