July 3rd, open the July 4th festivities of cookouts and campfires, fireworks and flying Old Glory on Manchaug Pond with the annual Lighting of the Shoreline!
At 9:00 PM on July 3rd, let’s light the shoreline and campsites with flares, tiki torches, lanterns, and/or campfires to wrap the lake in a festive glow. This Manchaug Pond tradition was first held on the lake in 1974 when suggested by a member at the Annual Meeting of the then Manchaug Pond Association. In addition to the July 4th celebration, the Lighting of the Shoreline takes place again on Labor Day weekend marking the end of the summer season.
So join in solidarity with the members of the Manchaug Pond Foundation. Flares can be purchased from directly from the Manchaug Pond Foundation with two different types of flares offered: the traditional ORION 30 minute eco-emergency marine/road flare approved by the United States Coast Guard ($5 each) and an environmentally-safe, re-usable LIFE-GEAR LED flare which is great for children to use (3 pack for $10). If you are using traditional flares, after burning please dispose of the remaining wire stand and salt-like substance in the trash as this could pose a risk safety and to water quality.
Keep the holiday festive and safe! Order online to purchase. Local Delivery Only to your dock or campsite.
