Attention All Boat Owners!
This year’s check will be on Saturday, June 4th, 9:00 AM to noon at the State Boat Ramp, 24 Torrey Road in Sutton. Bring your vessel to the ramp either on a trailer or by water. Volunteers will be on hand to assist while certified examiner Jim Arpin of the Greenwich Bay Power Squadron will check your boat to make sure you are legal and safe.
- Did you know that a kayak, canoe, or paddle boat needs a whistle or horn?
- Or that any boat with a motor, big or small, must be registered with the numbers, block-style, displayed on the hull?
- Do you have life jackets for all on board? Do you know who is required to wear them and when?
- What size vessel must have flares, throw ring, and fire extinguishers?
Let Jim walk you through the equipment needs, rules and regulations for your size vessel!
You’ll receive a copy of a written checklist/evaluation sheet with which to follow-up with the suggestions where you see fit. Boats that pass will receive the 2016 decal to proudly display on the vessel hull.
Law enforcement officials are not present at this event and no citations are given. It only takes a few minutes, there is no cost, and is a service for your benefit and to promote safety on Manchaug Pond. It is a great opportunity to ensure your motorboat, canoe, kayak or personal watercraft is safe and has all the right equipment to start the season. All welcome!
Thank you to Examiner Jim Arpin and the Worcester County Sail and Power Squadron for lending their service and expertise.
