BOATERS VESSEL SAFETY CHECK OFFERED AT MANCHAUG POND Manchaug Pond Foundation and a Green Bay Sail & Power Squadron volunteer help boaters stay safe. MANCHAUG POND, SUTTON/DOUGLAS:  JUNE 8, 2019 – With boating season under way,  the Manchaug Pond Foundation is sponsoring a free Vessel Safety Check (VSC) for all interested boaters at the state boat ramp on Manchaug Pond, Saturday, June 8th between 9:00 AM and Noon, Torrey Road in Sutton.  This is a no-cost, no-risk, courtesy inspection offered to all interested boaters of all ages.  All types of vessels are eligible from paddleboards and pedal boats, to sail, kayaks and canoes, to personal watercraft and power boats. Qualified Vessel Examiner Jim Arpin of the Greenwich Bay Sail & Power Squadron will help you make your vessel safe and legal. Did you know that a kayak, canoe, or pedal boat needs a whistle or horn? Or that any boat with a motor must be registered with the numbers displayed on the hull? Do you have life jackets for all on board? Jim will walk you through the rules and regulations for your vessel, point out both the required and recommended items to have aboard, such as fire extinguishers, life jackets, distress …

Storm Preparedness

Manchaug Pond Foundation participates in town workshop Posted February 21, 2019 “If you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.” Mark Twain The weather is always a topic of conversation, especially in New England! Looking just at 2018, eight states including Massachusetts realized historic rainfall setting records for the wettest 11 months since 1895* and, if that wasn’t enough, Manchaug Pond also saw a tornado touch down on the Waters Road conservation property tearing across the lake and up Lackey Road bringing down trees, dragging anchored boats, and cracking walls. The unpredictably of the weather – with trends of warming in the early decades of the 1900’s flipping to lows in the 1940’s through the 70’s significant enough to cause scientists to warn of a pending ice age to today’s talk of renewed warming patterns – calls for a new initiative, municipal preparedness. Earlier this month the Town of Sutton did just that, looking beyond the forecasts and climate buzzwords to a preparedness workshop – and Manchaug Pond Foundation was there! Annual Meeting of the Members Saturday!

Posted August 8, 2018 Calling all members…  it is time for the ANNUAL Business MEETING of the Manchaug Pond Foundation – 9th for the Foundation and 51st for the MPA!  This year the date is a couple weeks early due to the availability of the facility so plan to join in Saturday morning, August 11th at the Dining Hall of the YMCA Camp Blanchard, Manchaug Road in Sutton on the shores of Manchaug Pond.     Pay your dues online today or at the door to attend!  9:00 AM the coffee will be on with a delicious homemade breakfast buffet to follow at 9:30. Business meeting agenda to include: Approval of the minutes Treasurer’s financial report for 2017 and 2018 to date Election of the Board of Directors by the members Setting the budget for 2019 Presentation of awards for the 2018 Boat Decorating Contest Old and new business from the membership. Promoting a safe and patriotic holiday on Manchaug Pond, the Manchaug Pond Foundation looks to kick off the festivities: Annual BOAT DECORATING CONTEST & PARADE! We’re looking for entries so get out your red, white and blue or go big with a theme on Sunday, July 1st at 1:00 p.m. with the Annual Boat Decorating Contest! Register your entry by contacting us, providing the Captain’s name, telephone #, boat make & model, and decorating theme by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your entry number which must be prominently displayed on both sides of your vessel, visible to the judges.
