Manchaug Pond Foundation Boat Decorating Contest

July 4th Celebrations to begin on Manchaug Pond!

Manchaug Pond Foundation Boat Decorating Contest

The July 4th celebrations are wonderful on Manchaug Pond! Last year’s Lighting of the Shoreline on the 3rd, the eagle soaring over the lake the morning of the 4th, cookouts and campfires with family and friends, and the lights of over 80 boats that evening watching the amazing shoreline festivities all demonstrate the spirit of family, community and patriotism.

The Manchaug Pond Foundation wishes all a happy and safe 4th of July and offers our annual events:

Tonight:  Friday, JULY 3RD ~ LIGHTING OF THE SHORELINE

At 9:00 PM, join in solidarity as the Manchaug Pond Foundation lighting your shoreline, home, and campsites with flares, tiki torches, lanterns, and campfires to start the celebrations!  This Manchaug Pond tradition was first held when suggested by a member, Professor Nunnemacher, at the Annual Meeting of the Manchaug Pond Association in 1974.

Flares can be purchased from the Manchaug Pond Foundation at cost- the traditional marine/road flare approved by the United States Coast Guard ($5 each) and an environmentally-safe, re-usable LED flare (3 pack for $10). Contact us to purchase. (If you are using traditional flares, to ensure safety and water quality, after burning please dispose of the remaining debris and salt-like substance in the trash.)

Sunday, JULY 5th ~ PARADE & BOAT DECORATING CONTEST

At 1:00 p.m., starting at Blueberry Island, we’ll line up our boats for a patriotic parade around the lake and the Annual BOAT DECORATING CONTEST.

Manchaug Pond has a long history of boaters flying Old Glory, blowing horns and trumpets, and making noise in celebration! All boats both big and small, decorated or not, are welcome to enter the contest or just pull up in line to join the fun!

Past competitors have decorated everything from pedal boats and kayaks, to rowboats and jetskiis, to bowriders and pontoon boats. After the Judges’ Boat has had a good look at all the entries, the 28 ft. Support Our Troops Flag Ship will lead us around the lake for a slow cruise allowing full viewing of your artistically decorated and enthusiastic executed entry giving both the judges and all shoreline and roadside spectators a sight to remember! If you don’t want to be eligible for prizes, recognition, and most of all, bragging rights, you can skip the registration and simply join in the fun!
