Manchaug Pond Foundation Event

Tonight, Light the Shoreline!

Manchaug Pond Foundation Event

Lighting of the Shoreline 2014

Join in the lighting the Manchaug Pond shoreline at 8:30 PM tonight, Sunday, September 4th, in solidarity as the Manchaug Pond Foundation!  This remains the last big weekend on the lake as children go back to school and the summer season comes to an end.

This is a long-standing tradition begun over 40 years ago, setting the shoreline of Manchaug Pond aglow on the eves of July 4th and Labor Day. The practice was suggested at the 1974 MPA Annual Meeting by member Professor Robert Nunnemacher after experiencing at a lake in New York and loved the effect. The MPA membership unanimously voted that day to bring the practice to Manchaug Pond where it has been a tradition ever since.

With flares, tiki torches, and campfires, light your waterfront, campsite, and home showing solidarity with the Manchaug Pond Foundation. New eco-friendly LED flares are available through the Foundation, coming in a 3-pack for $10 or $5 a piece. Besides the Lighting of the Shoreline, these reusable flares are great for use in the boat as part of your safety equipment. If you didn’t purchase your flares at the August Annual Meeting, contact us or your area representative for delivery.

Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!
